You should read what American revolutionaries did to the homes of British officials and Loyalists, notably Thomas Hutchinson.
Yeah, that was the time when farms got burned and people got hanged by mobs about 5 miles from where I live. Not very anxious to repeat the experience.
I have my qualms about the American revolution as well. But the larger point is protesting in front of residences of public figures is not new but has happened often before.
