Saddened+surprised Society published Larry Mead's hurtful+self-immolating commentary. He's obviously facing a tidal wave. I'll just note that I fundamentally disagree w/the sweeping, superficial+disrespectful generalizations about race, ethnicity+culture expressed in that essay.

Disagree! Mead's worldview is fundamentally harmful and has done enormous damage to millions of poor people. It's good that he's expressed the underlying bigotry so his pernicious ideas can more easily be opposed.

Wait, are you joking? This was the argument for publishing Cotton’s op-ed also, but you argued that was a bad decision.

The op ed was unnecessary for that purpose because Cotton had already expressed a much more extreme ("no quarters") version of the argument on twitter. The Times, of course, should have reported on that as a news article.
