Grappling with the difficult aspects of a historical legacy is NOT participating in cancel culture. It's being a grown up.

In fact anyone who’s serious about literature probably had the reaction I had: https://twitter.com/moongovernor/status/1272607859470209024?s=21 …https://twitter.com/MoonGovernor/status/1272607859470209024 …

Is he trying to cancel Elie?

His tweet makes me think that, for Mr. Frum, article reading is cancelled.

I thought it was very nuanced! Not exactly a new conversation either, as it pertains to white writers and Southern literature

The “cancellation” he’s referring to is in his previous tweet about a Loyola dorm being renamed. The article is being linked as the reason for the “cancellation.” He’s not implying the article itself is a cancellation.
-
Renaming a dorm isn't cancellation either, and it's either stupid or disingenuous (maybe both!) to claim it is.

Seriously. I have that book and it is good. We can't ignore the whole of who our favorites are.

Agreed. I felt really sad reading it (had no idea of anything beside her fiction) but my discomfort with facts doesn’t mean I should be shielded from them.

Bah! Nonsense. Her legacy has been reevaluated, but renaming a hall is hardly cancellation.
