No love for “Barry Lyndon”? I didn’t get it but the fact he filmed it by candlelight and designed it to look like historical paintings come to life, plus it was his fall back film when he couldn’t get the money to make Napoleon using the Czechoslovakian army.

Besides the obvious film nerd shit, it's funny that both Thackeray adaptations (Barry Lyndon and Vanity Fair) are significantly more positive to their arriviste protagonists than to the aristocrats surrounding them, unlike the books
