3. Post-1950, Newfoundland premier Joey Smallwood tried to build up his province by recruiting European industrialists, some of whom had unsavory pasts and one who turned out to be an embezzler as well as a Nazi. Ended very badly.

4. And the focus on Ukrainian allies of Nazis shouldn't be used as excuse to over look other communities in Central & Eastern Europe and Balkans who had similar trajectory.

The Catholic Church ruled the place until the 1950s. Many religious orders emigrated from France to Quebec after the 1905 law separating church and state in France.
