Starting to wonder if there can be any real change in the very bad Covid policy in USA without mass mobilization of some kind.

Suspect we will just stumble thru until vaccines are tested and available. And that the death rate will be high but, given improved protocols and therapeutics, still well below the peak in late March and April.

That would still leave several hundred thousand totally unnecessary deaths. This is one of the biggest political failures in American history.

We always knew Trump would cause mass casualties...just didn’t think it would be in the US. At very least, we as a nation hopefully learn to hire professionals in the future.

It's really the first major crisis Trump has faced not of his own making. The saber rattling with North Korea and Iran could have become something worse....but this is on a whole other level of magnitude, in terms of the consequences for public health and the economy.

So, obviously, Democracy is unworkable. Even supposing voters have necessary analytic skills & are motivated to use them, they lack adequate information on character & competence of candidates, and on the motives of the partisan puppeters who select, control and fund them.

I don’t disagree!! I’m just suggesting how it looks like this is going to turn out. Especially given that the white conservative base of GOP sunbelt politicians is the least likely cohort to massively engage in persistent militant protest.

Regardless of the nuances of incompetence/depravity, Iraq has to be the winner here, unless we’re discounting Iraqi lives.
