A guy who's always wrong and has to be convinced to be right by commenters? Why not just have the commenters then?

I find that replacing every occurrence of his name with "noted race science advocate Andrew Sullivan" can be a helpful means of clarifying one's mind about his supposed virtues as a respectable figure within public discourse
-
Now now, he’s also the world’s leading scholar on Sarah Palin’s last pregnancy.

He was a much better blogger than a weekly tri-columnist!

A check on his Tory elitism can’t hurt, but let’s be honest: the largely well-off Xers who supported his blog were also paying to not be challenged on their economic privilege

Last time he had a blog it was well funded by magazine publishers and heavily dependent on paid staff work and on intern labor. I doubt that will again be the case.
-
Even if he had staff, the comments would be a shitshow. Sullivan has shown he is incapable of admitting he was wrong - he may change his mind, but he will never fess up to bungling a read on an issue. He cannot adapt to changing perspectives and norms. This will end poorly.

if people thought his work was racist after it had been edited, I'm eager for them to find out what he's like without any checks on his content
