1. How bad could Covid get in America? Let's just say it's not a good sign that Rush Limbaugh is praising cannibals as heroes.https://twitter.com/mmfa/status/1283130468871876608 …

2. Limbaugh's praise of the Donner Party as heroic cannibals is not an outlier. He was in fact channelling earlier arguments made along this line by William Bennett & David Frum. As
@jholbo1 noted long ago, this exaltation of the Donner flesh-eaters helps us understand the right14 replies 12 retweets 90 likesShow this thread -
Not a fan of Rush Limbaugh, but he didn't praise them as heroes. Try listening to what people actually say, not what you think they mean.

Did you read my article that is linked to? I explain in detail why Limbaugh & the others see Donner Party as admirable. But it's also there in plain meaning of Limbaugh's words: Donner (hardy cannibals) are good, millennials (soft, whiny) are bad.pic.twitter.com/IorZUjy4ok

Yes I read it, and I watched the video before I replied. Nothing here even slightly indicates heroism. He said they resorted to cannibalism to survive. None of this is a defence of cannibalism, it's pointing out what they did to survive, which is adapting to their environment.

The principle for the concept of adaptation is what is being admired. It's this quality which he's implying is worthy of emulation.

"It was so bad that they had to turn to cannibalism to survive. That’s what’s noteworthy about the Donner Party." Not adaptation is noteworthy, mind you, but cannibalism. If adaptation were admired why didn't Limbaugh praise Natives, who did an infinitely better job of adapting?

Why did he describe it as noteworthy? "They had to adapt. That's what's missing. There is no concept of adaptation." Why do you think a person who has a history of making racist comments wouldn't have used Natives as an example?
