I don’t think it makes people vote more conservative. Speaking as someone who grew up in St. Cloud, the center of the white backlash in MN, it just makes the people who were quiet about their racism louder. They’d be voting R anyway.

It could but it hasn’t. Senate and governor elections in 2018 had Dems ahead by 10 points! Even Keith Ellison won by 4 points for AG while dealing with a lot of controversy.

The issue is that suburban whites who originally moved there for white flight reasons are 1) Moving away from Trump especially college educated ones 2) Are actually now more likely to visit the city than visit rural America Cities just aren't that scary anymore

It is... in mn for much of the past, the farmers, miners and rural pop was largely DFL, MN's Democratic party... this has been changing over the last several years as the rural areas have been turning
