I think the problem is to refute your review would require you reading some books: Michael Kazin's The Populist Persuasion, John Judis' The Populist Explosion for a start. I'd also add that the main racists in American history have been anti-populist elitists.

You're just demonstrating you don't understand how to engage in scholarly dialogue w/ all of this. You're cherry-picking literature that conforms to your beliefs. Also, it's false that the "main racists in American history" have been anti-populist elitists.

The systems of slavery and Jim Crow were not set up by populists but rather by people who were squarely in the elite consensus of liberalism & conservatism (from Locke to Woodrow Wilson).

This just...isn’t true. Slavery was “set up” before populism was a political movement. Wilson supported him crow but didn’t set it up. The KKK were anti elite anti northern often populist.

If you are restricting "anti-populist" to only movements arising from Populist Party, then you shouldn't call contemporary movements populist. In this case, I "anti-populist" broadly means people skeptical of mass democracy & supportive of elite rule.

I’m...not doing that at all though. And you can define anti populist that way if you want but it’s just wrong and not supported by any legitimate agreed upon definition

Well, I think your argument then is with people citing your views of historical Populist party to contemporary movements that are labelled populist. I saw your tweet from someone who cited you in that way.

My thread that was cited talks about a lot more than just the historical populist party. So no my tweets weren’t cited that way
