1. I try not to be a downer but it's difficult to view what is happening in the United States as anything other than a massive and unnecessary disaster. The pandemic is spinning out of control as in no other nation on earth & Trump opposes any serious solution.https://twitter.com/keithboykin/status/1281059916124487681 …

3. There's a global impact as well. Even assuming most other nations get this under control, the fact is the American consumer is the engine that pulls the global economy. There will be no full recovery without USA, meaning a poorer world for years to come.

4. Even if Biden wins in November, he doesn't assume presidency until January 21, 2021. Will it even be possible to bring things under control by then? And he'll preside over country with 30-40% population Trumpized, wary of masks, conspiratorial.

5. Maybe someone can talk me out of this but I really don't see anything but a very rocky road for USA for the foreseeable future.

I think Trump may actually know this. But he likely feels any benefit coming from getting the pandemic under control wouldn't hit soon enough to help him with the election and would cause short term pain

And the moral of the story is: Don't give Republicans the levers of power, EVER. We thought everyone learned that the last time but the USA is #1 at amnesia.

Realistically it will be 3 to 5 years to get this under control. Assume a global depression hope for a recession. Assume COVID will mutate. Assume it plays a role in our lives for the next generation or two. It will force radical change. Biden has think big systemic change.

This disease is like polio, except it's disabling adults (for the most part) rather than children. I'm pretty sure a large fraction of the population didn't dismiss polio as a hoax, circa 1955, however.
