Update on ALIENS (1986): I'm 1/3 of the way through it (I watch it in bits on stationary bike) and while of course it's a Good Movie, the people who suggest it's better than ALIEN (1979) are bananas. I'll except @anniekoyama just out of respect, although she... might be bananas 2

I don't disagree! It's a bit of an insult to the movie. On the other hand, when a movie is too good for that use I won't watch it that way. I'm not... missing any subtleties in Aliens due to the noise of the bike or the breaks between viewings

Dustin: Aliens is in fact a full-on immersive experience, like Terminator II. The only way to watch it is in a theatre, ideally surrounded only by contributors to Cahiers du Cinéma or, in a pinch, the surviving mistresses of Fellini and Bergman. Anything less is an injustice.

Obviously I expressed myself in a joking way but, yes, I was also serious: it's an immersive movie and needs the big screen. There aren't too many movies of which that is true, certainly not most action movies.

I mean, we can agree that nearly all movies of any quality are 1000% better on a big screen, with great sound, an enthusiastic audience, etc

I'm not sure I agree.
