Are there any parallels from history or other countries to weird liberal nostalgia for Reagan and Bush?

I have no disagreement that Bush's presidency was a disaster but I do think we disagree about whether 43% favorable on a survey constitutes proof of "liberal nostalgia."

Bush is more favorably viewed by liberals than Trump is by the American people as a whole!

The argument wasn't that there is something wrong with liberals. It was specifically that there was liberal nostalgia for Bush. There is no evidence for this. 43% favorability-48% unfavorability is not a proxy for nostalgia.

Yeah, Bush's ratings have gone up over time due to 1. normal improvement in presidential ratings over time (Clinton reached 66% approval post-presidency) & 2. a comparison to Trump. None of this is reflective of nostalgia for Bush.

I think you are misinterpreting favorability as a poll question vs job approval as president. (Not saying the answers are good, but don’t think that’s the same as Bush nostalgia)
-
Yeah, but there is no real measure for "nostalgia" so this is as close to a proxy as we have.

In every policy sense you are right. But I think liberals feel nostalgia for that time largely because Bush did not attempt to cast everyone he disagreed with out of the American experience and speak only to his base of Fox news viewers. They tried to court meet the press.
