Even community colleges are HIGHLY dependent on foreign students now, at least the good ones. My wife teaches at one and this will devastate their income and probably end up raising tuition or affecting services in some way.

Yep. Most pay full or even premium tuition. Science research relies on graduate student labor, much non-U.S. Renters have to sign leases, so landlords will be stuck with vacancies. Graduates that get H1Bs or green cards have started businesses. Not forward thinking.

Frankly, if any student is dumb enough to come to the US right now, I'm not sure they're the kind of student we want.

A lapse of this visa could create difficulties continuing later.

I suspect that will not stand. 1) Some cannot go home bc their countries will not admit ppl from US; 2) many colleges/universities make big bucks off foreign students who r paying full tuition. I can see MAJOR pressure both from some state U's and from many elite institutions

Countries that have banned American tourists from travel will still accept their own citizens returning home. They'd just require them to quarantine for two weeks and get tested.
