great fucking movie. one of kubricks best and might be his most Jewish in its relation to power and acceptance as an outsider. he would revisit this in eyes again.

Had never considered that interpretation. Very interesting! The first scene with the Chevalier du Balibari captures this perfectly and is among my favorite moments in the film. The emotional toll on both men from the endless effort to fit into that world is so relatable.
