I guess I think Hofstadter, in the historiography and the historian’s academy, has been destroyed re populism (Progressivism a more complicated case). And not sure how much purchase cap P Populism has in general public.

I don’t say it to make a quickie twitter point, even though that’s kind of the point of twitter but, rather, just to think about and how there are *reactionary popular* formations and that the word “populism” (distinguished from the movement) is “keyword” like malleable.

too much to say here, but many of those committed to liberalism fear *collectivist* chaos of any sort because, at its base, its existence is horror to what liberalism terminates in, a kind of investment in atomistic individualism (backed by property or natural law)
