The kids today don't believe it but in 2018 one major argument the Democrats used was that if they won the House they would do oversight on Trump and check his excesses. Many voters believed them too and it helped the Dems win! Wild times.

It’s hard to do oversight if the other side controls DOJ and ignores all subpoenas and every order/request.
-
Do you think history will look back and agree that it was too hard

History will note that the Democrats did all they could to stop Trump, while his party stuck by him and critics from the left contributed little more than griping.

I think you’re better off placing blame where it belongs: @senatemajldr and
@SenateGOP who enable trump and refuse to hold him accountable. We’re learning how weak our systems are in the face of a lawless president and an entire political party dedicated to protecting him.Thanks. Twitter will use this to make your timeline better. UndoUndo

Not sure history will see Dems as not being sufficiently critical of Trump during this time.
-
Not a matter of "critical" - did they use all levers of power available to limit the harm Trump and his allies cause to the country and world?

What if the House had put the senate R's on record over ALL of trump's impeachable offenses instead of just one?
-
What would that have done?

The problem with the presidency is that he is the law, effectively. Not only do we need to rethink policing, we need to rethink the powers of the presidency.

I do actually. I think history will see three presidents impeached up to this point and one of them was Trump. I think history will blame Senate Republicans for a lack of consequences. And if Biden wins, they will believe the public finally held him accountable.
-
Perhaps it's a tad inside the bubble to think impeaching a president is no biggy in history's eyes.
