also i thin its pretty weird to try to hold people accountable for past statements and views when you're anonymous and so not in any way responsible for anything you say on here

moreover it’s kind of ironic to try to slam or ridicule people for past statements, isn’t the potential unfairness of that practice part of the critique of cancel culture?

This is like 10th-grade-level analogy mistake. You probably already realize that?

Pointing out self-contradiction is...how argument precedes? When the contradicting statements arrive with the same scorn for the (shifting) opposite view, it makes you a bit ridiculous, deserving an emoji. That's not what anyone means by "cancel culture"

well first of all i as i pointed out i didnt ever really hold the view you seem to want to attribute to me. second, i think its a pretty broad notion to say the least that an emoji constitutes an "argument"

third, that sort of rhetorical move is usually thought of as part of the phenomenon even if it doesnt really result in the most dire consequences. constantly hunting for petty past misstatements or old sentiments as evidence of bad faith or hypocrisy not part of how that operates

i mean that as a question "is constantly hunting for petty past misstatements or old sentiments as evidence of bad faith not part of how it all operates?" and i totally agree about self-contradiction, which is why i made my points

also its not a self-contradiction to change ones opinion, so you're making a really cheap point

Changing one's opinion is ofc good but in self-aware people is usually accompanied with some acknowledgement, and consequent humility. Expressing magisterial scorn for your opponents, even as the position shifts 180 degrees, is what I am making fun of-- deservedly!!

If we are talking about contradictions I think there is an obvious one between your wounded amour propre when mocked/criticized and your opposition to cancel culture (commonly portrayed as hyper-sensitivity by some to mockery/criticism). I'd like to see some humility on that.

yeah and theres also the fact that when you drop in on a discussion you bring your camp of likers and commenters and retweeters, a lot of them anon accounts themselves, so like i said earlier, dont think you are so much an exception to online mob phenomenon as an exemplar

ofc I don't "bring" them. They arrive. I find most of their replies annoying (even when I agree), esp when I'm arguing against two of you at once.

Whoa... thought we were done with this. There's ofc no contradiction between feeling wounded, and arguing that it's no small matter when squads of lunatics get ppl fired on account of their wounds. I get it, though. You wanted another shot at my "amour propre"
