1. The newsroom uprising against James Bennet at the New York Times, along with media controversies about racism, has led the the usual handwringing from the usual suspects about PC, SJWs, safe spaces, blah blah blah. A new entry into this discourse is @mtaibbi.

I respect both of you very much and I disagreed with his Cotton take, but I did think some of his points were relevant and this is an area that Taibbi has been consistent on. I thought his points were worth airing, just as I think yours are as well (including your response here)

@nberlat talks a lot about chattering class solidarity; the idea that the pundit class considers anything they deem unlikely to affect them personally as a purely academic debate with no real-world consequences. That same tendency is on display here.Thanks. Twitter will use this to make your timeline better. UndoUndo

Strikes me that some people are nervous about 2 attacks. Attacks on both-sidesism is stressful, because they live by the idea that if they anger both sides, they’re doing it right. Attacks on “marketplace of ideas” means you can’t just say whatever & truth will magically emerge.

Matt's article make an even more explosive claim, which is that too much PC backfires and erodes support for left wing causes. That makes me question the value and motives of left oriented reporters (but not you, Jeet!).

You are arguing the substance of the Tom Cotton piece. I believe
@mtaibbi argues that it was a legitimate and healthy choice to include the piece in the Times, in order to allow people (like yourself) to argue the substance of the issues it presents.Thanks. Twitter will use this to make your timeline better. UndoUndo

It is possible simultaneously to think both that Tom Cotton is wrong-headed; and that the esteemed editor of the Times op ed page should not be forced out for publishing his op ed.
