I don't know who needs to hear this but: My wife is from a country in Africa and one time I showed her the kente cloth scarf I bought in high school and she took it away and never gave it back and this is the first time I've spoken of it in over 20 years because the shame is deep

I thought it was pathetic (as in rich in pathos, not as in I'm trying to insult anyone). It's a story of a young man trying to come to terms with his heritage and after being implicitly reproached by his wife years later, he can't forgive himself for the rest of his life.
