1. What the hell is happening at the New York Times? I think the larger crisis, going well beyond the argument over the Cotton op ed, is the crack-up of the elite consensus that dominated from 1939 until 1991 (and had a strong afterlife until around 2014).

This is the problem. Op-ed pages should not be based on the false construct of partisan divide. It doesn't exist in the real world. Voters don't break down this way. It's a purely elite invention that needs to go. Opinion shpuld be expert analysis, real differences within fields
