It's been heartening watching all of journalism raise their hands in outrage at the fact that a Daily Beast editor-at-large said Bari Weiss should be assaulted. It shows that concerns about journalistic safety are genuine and not weaponized for political gain. Things are great.

I disagree. I thought the column was a very bad idea, but he did not actually call for the military to respond to protesters -- rather, looters nad rioters, . Of course it could still be dangerous, but you gotta respond to what he actually wrote.

Given the actual history of military interventions in popular uprisings, do we really believe they'd be able to make the distinction between protestors on the one and looters/rioters on the other?

Was Cotton calling for the National Guard or for something else? It'll take 2 seconds of googling to find out. Also there are reasons to be cautious about using even the National Guard for this purpose (again 2 second on google is all you need).
