There might be interesting work to be done on the role science fiction & fantasy writers played in the fusion of medievalism and libertarianism. I'm thinking here of Heinlein (see especially Glory Road), Poul Anderson, & Pournelle.

Heinlein is interesting because he pushed libertarianism to its logical conclusion of solipsism -- as in All You Zombies where thanks to time travel, a character becomes his own mother and father: a completely self-made person.
