2. Trump wants to use the military to squash the protests. The military, especially after the backlash to Monday night's church photo op fiasco, is pushing back, hard. So: incompetence, yes. But Trump has plenty of fall back positions: egging on cops & militias.

It's been clear from jump that B is a limiting factor on A, but also creates its own set of problems. My fear is that Hawley or Cotton or whomever isn't as much of a dumbass, follows the Bannon / Herronvolk approach more and then we're well and truly fucked.
