The first part of what you say—all the way up to "...public doesn't care"—is absolutely true. The second part, not so much. Poverty, violence & segregation caused urban unrest from 65-68. The draft & imminent death put young ppl in the streets from '68 thru '71.

Ppl like me...constituted every male during that pd, both white & minority. It was an existential issue. It was the reason campus buildings went up in flames. The only people who got out of it were either really rich or pol connected. My pt: 2020 & '68 aren't analogous.
