Of the 6352 Canadians who have died from COVID-19, I've linked 5406 to residential care.https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1M_RzojK0vwF9nAozI7aoyLpPU8EA1JEqO6rq0g1iebU/edit?usp=sharing …

Because it's Saturday night, there were many notices that didn't specify the LTC/facility that the person was living in, so the percentage of 85.1% is lower than it actually is.

I've got some time as the only other thing to do is track down the number of beds in each residence, so here is a thread about what this list says about where we're at. A thread.

There are seven residences that have had 60 or more deaths. This is staggering. Think about all the times there's been 60 deaths in a single instance in Canada. Now multiply that by seven.

There are 163 facilities that have had double-digit deaths -- so 10 or more. 11 people died in the Toronto van attack. 16 died in the Humboldt crash. 163 different facilities, and of them, most go way beyond 10.

The total number of locations on my list is 553. 231 places have one or two people die. In some cases, they were spared from massive outbreaks. In others, we'll see these numbers rise over the next several weeks.

In Ontario, I've tracked 1720 deaths. The Ontario ministry's official numbers are 1452. The difference? Theirs doesn't include other -- retirement residences, rehab centres and shelters, for example. We need to be careful with what officials are saying is what.

The total in Alberta that I have is 81. That's spread across 14 facilities. Compare that to Nova Scotia, 55 at only two facilities, and there's a lot to dig into here for healthcare researchers.

Are there good excess death numbers in Canada?

No -- the patchwork health reporting systems has made this not great. Here's statscan's most recent update on that (and I saw something interesting from Quebec this week about it -- but, predictably, nothing national) https://www150.statcan.gc.ca/n1/daily-quotidien/200513/dq200513d-eng.htm …
