The 70s were the formative experience for most of them, and they can't imagine anything worse since they were already well-off and relatively insulated from the effects of it by the time the 2008 crisis came along.

It's not insane for someone to think a supply shock coupled with very loose monetary & fiscal policy could result in inflation, this is quite a bizarre reaction.
