4. Unless something unexpected happens, Trump is going to be president until at least January 20, 2021. In normal times, that would be bad, in a pandemic it's truly catastrophic. No chance of national leadership for 8 months.

5. America has come up with a defacto work-around for Trump being president during the pandemic: governors & private sector taking the lead. But this is a global pandemic & there are foreign policy actions only a president can perform.

That is, in large part, what Trump and his Cult *wanted* him to do. I don't mean specifically with the regard to the pandemic, but they primarily want a president who prominently shoults and tweets insults at people they dislike, not a president who has major policy interests.

on Slate they said he liked the idea of appearing to be presidential while having the briefings, you know, playing a president on TV, but then he did the whole "inject disinfectant" "hit the body with major light" thing and it all imploded so now he just avoids talking about it
