2. Trump has done something remarkable: he's gone AWOL in plain sight. He's everywhere (on TV, on twitter) but not really engaged with the crisis. He's pretending to be president while being president. That "Independence Day" tweet was a tell.

4. Unless something unexpected happens, Trump is going to be president until at least January 20, 2021. In normal times, that would be bad, in a pandemic it's truly catastrophic. No chance of national leadership for 8 months.

5. America has come up with a defacto work-around for Trump being president during the pandemic: governors & private sector taking the lead. But this is a global pandemic & there are foreign policy actions only a president can perform.
