So why are government restrictions necessary?

Doesn’t that bolster the libertarian/small government argument? Given the medical information, people will generally make cautious choices.

One issue has been that states don’t really want to enforce lockdown orders. It’s not just Texas. We saw how they were enforced inconsistently and with racial bias in NY.

Exactly. The economic collapse preceded the lockdown because people did not feel safe. They stayed home much earlier and stopped spending their money out. It’s why reopening isn’t going to get things back to normal. The majority of people don’t feel safe.

Right. But individuals need the legitimacy of laws & support from the government to take time from work, or permission to work from home (assisted by it being more-or-less required by laws), and so on.

They'll come back, but they'll do so slowly and carefully. Except in Wisconsin, I don't know what those people are thinking...

I just don't believe it . If you open up restaurants and bars people are going to show up , no doubt in my mind about that . This thing was blown way out of proportion from the get go. Let the business owners decide how to safely get back to normal.

Honestly if all government restrictions were lifted tomorrow my and my family’s behavior wouldn’t change much at all. WFH; only essential trips (grocery store, takeout from restaurants); masks in public. Certainly no dine-in, movie theatres or baseball games for us anytime soon.

The biggest factor for us is school closures, and we’ve already adjusted to the reality of the kids being home for the rest of the school year, and that’s not going to change. So we pretty much know what our lives look like until fall. Biggest open q is if schools will open then.
