This is a good tweet but it's undercut by the fact that the policy Biden is rightly criticizing here is advocated by one of his economic advisors. Biden needs to distance himself from the austerity advocates in his own camp.https://twitter.com/JoeBiden/status/1259855842041565186 …

I think their calls for austerity will be ineffective given the increased strength of people pushing the other side, and Biden's push to revive FDR style government. I think Austerity Dems have had little traction for years now, but the right has had Congress so it didn't matter.

Natasha Sarin just published this piece advocating austerity. Considering Biden’s history as a deficit hawk; Why should Biden have somebody like Sarin in the room? https://papers.ssrn.com/sol3/papers.cfm?abstract_id=3593054 …

Is Larry Summers an austerity advocate? What's that based on?
-
I can only assume it's 2008 or so? To be sure, Summers wore out his welcome for other reasons long ago. His remarks on women in academia when he was President of Harvard were genuinely bad.

I wasn't aware that a president's advisors all had to believe exactly the same thing all the time.

It’s almost like president’s don’t have to follow the advice they’re given . . .
