So Hayek said we shouldn't discriminate between who is allowed to play in the Viennese Symphony Orchestra based on their political views. Nor should we based on their religion or race. That seems fair?pic.twitter.com/3bxz5hUpSx

Because apparently being a Nazi wasn't all that bad in Hayek's eyes...pic.twitter.com/RVlCQSYT21

He also had bad economics, Nobel Prize notwithstanding.

Dirty little secret, the Economics Nobel is actually given out by the Swedish Central Bank, which members of the actual Nobel family are not so keen on (ex. Peter Nobel) since they're basically using their name for PR.

So ol’ Rand here wants us to go back to like Black Death or Bubonic plague in the Middle Ages style response? Just let things happen and individual people have to figure out how to deal with mass death in the populace?

Rand’s approach is the standard libertarian mindset - ordinary people milling around making shit up is a preferable situation to organized/scientific/evidence based approach. I just don’t see how that can work in a disease pandemic scenario.

And also that the central thesis of The Road To Serfdom proved to be completely wrong. No tyranny ever got built on universal health care or unemployment benefits. Tyranny builds on bad cops, judges, legislators, and executives.

Hayek was pro UBI and not anti universal healthcare, or a basic social safety net. From the the road to serfdom (which you referenced): https://sites.google.com/site/wapshottkeyneshayek/hayek-on-health-care-social-safety-nets-and-public-housing …. Politically, Hayek was influenced a lot by Karl Popper. He was scared of government overreach.
