The primary difference between how the United States is handling #COVIDー19 in May as opposed to March is that a swath of Americans have now adjusted to the fact that more than 100,000 fellow countrymen will die from the virus and are ready to move on.

A large swath of Republican donors, though.

This is a horrible thought, but maybe the public blindness to the scale of the death would change if hospitals piled the body bags on the street instead of inside the trucks.

The protests have given the sense that it's a large swath and the media's breathless coverage of every one of them contributed to that. Once again the media has worked at the behest of the far-right in this country.

I live in a very red area. According to the FB, they don't believe the death count; they truly believe it's 39k b/c hospitals mark every death as COVID to get more $. They also believe it's a conspiracy by the govt (Dems only though, w/ their limited power
) to take rights away.pic.twitter.com/pddMCHbJGuThanks. Twitter will use this to make your timeline better. UndoUndo

Maybe ⅕ of Americans want to bust loose of restrictions—maybe they don’t personally know anybody who’s gotten sick
Or even: they see ones who got sick as “others”—that it’s cities where people fell ill
Which is somewhat true bc it’s only now getting cooking outside of citiesThanks. Twitter will use this to make your timeline better. UndoUndo
