Maybe...it's certainly a point under contention. Just as arguable that the Reagan>Dubya>Trump continuum reflects ever increasing paranoia by white racist/sexist America about being supplanted, and we can look wistfully at normative adherence with less open paranoid dumbfuckery.

Like...I'm not convinced that Dubya paved the way for Trump in a meaningful sense, any more than I'm convinced Reagan paved the way for Dubya. I think these outcomes are structurally guaranteed by what the GOP has increasingly become in terms of racist anti-intellectual backlash
