Does anyone remember the time in the 1990s when some kids made up fake slang words & convinced the New York Times they were widely used. I think @thebafflermag did an article about this.

I don't think so, you are not responsible for people's reactions to your language but you do have a responsibility to be articulate. Otherwise why are you speaking? We're engaged in rhetoric, we want to be effective in persuasion.
