Yep. The implicit metaphor of "peak" (along with the initial idealized bell curve models) promoted a sense of a steep descent. In actuality in most places we're seeing a long plateau and a slow, gentle decline. Which reinforces the need to be cautious.https://twitter.com/NateSilver538/status/1253835980299210754 …

"Descents look much slower than ascents" is an important observation in terms of what to expect going forward. Death tolls may decline (hopefully). But we probably won't get a steep, bell-curve-type decline. https://twitter.com/jburnmurdoch/status/1253834453782351876 …

If the plan is to get to Korea levels we need to be in full shutdown until October at least. Is that the plan?

Especially true if you treat the US like a separate series of countries. Each will go up hit a peak and come down at different times. We don’t know that we’ve hit all the state level peaks yet. I’d assume not. Even if some of them not as big as the early states. @NateSilver538

The whole point of social distancing is a long shallow plateau so it doesn’t overwhelm the hospitals, but neither does it suddenly drop off.
