Generally good news for Biden. His strength among older Americans (and relative weakness among POC compared to Obama or even Clinton) shows both the power and limits of a "return to normality" message.https://twitter.com/Nate_Cohn/status/1253022922349916161 …

"For things to remain the same, everything must change" -- Lampedusa, The Leopard. A good adage for the age of pandemics and climate change.

For starters, having basically functional government. As in, actually having bodies with functioning brains in key positions: https://www.nytimes.com/2020/03/26/us/politics/coronavirus-expertise-trump.html …

Absence of Malarkey does not a policy make.

Policy? Who dares dream of policy at this point? There's so much damage to repair at the executive level that I'd be happy if Biden can get us back to basic functionality in 4 years. One small example: I'd like a functioning State Department again. https://www.theatlantic.com/politics/archive/2018/11/state-department-empty-ambassador-to-australi/574831/ …

There is so much work to be done and damage to be repaired just to get standard governance back to basic competency that we should all be happy if 4 years of Biden gets us back to baseline normal.

It doesn't have to. No one really knows what "normal" means anyway. If there isn't a fire every day, and every media out but Fox and OANN say it's "normal," that's normal.

The long term question comes down to who Biden picks as VP. If Biden dies that person is president and likely the nominee in 24. If he doesn’t that person still has an advantage bc I don’t think Biden runs in 24 anyway but the party will be behind the VP.
