Even if The Lancet study said what Dr. Oz mistakenly thinks it says, this is a bad suggestion since it means several thousand excess deaths. But in fact Lancet study was referring to % increase if there is no other mitigation, which means tens of thousands excess death.https://twitter.com/atrupar/status/1250807416872189952 …

Seems to be general confusion in the press about what this study is saying. From what I've seen of it, Tapper's interpretation is closer to correct.https://twitter.com/jaketapper/status/1250818385279139841 …

Yes, Tapper is right.

That's weird because we have had the schools open the whole pandemic in Sweden and no deaths in anyone below 20. We don't have statistics for teachers, but I doubt they by themselves would increase deaths by so much.

I think they're referring more to kids contracting it and passing it on to their parents and so on...

It’s 2-4% of the COVID deaths that would happen if the schools weren’t open. In the US, the IMHE model suggests that number (going forward) will likely be between 30-40 K. So you’re talking between 600-1200 excess deaths, if the Lancet study is right.

As of right now the United States has 35,500 deaths.
