There were three potential outcomes: Bernie loses primary, Bernie wins primary and loses general, and Bernie wins primary and general. The third was obviously far and away the best. But the second was the worst, so we can at least be grateful we dodged that bullet

I think a far greater risk is that the general electorate would find him too left wing

The general electorate that polls say wants M4A would find him too left wing, sure.

Seems much more likely that he would loose because of normal electoral challenges than because of a conspiracy against him (though Labor was doing what they could to show I'm wrong here :-p),

Must you always pearl dive to the takeist of all takes in order to generate an interesting "Be it resolved" statement? The gamble with Sanders winning the primary is that he would have lost the general. Because he is a terrible candidate. Because he can't even win his own party.

It's not a gamble, imo. If Biden loses to Trump, his campaign will have been completely useless, accomplishing nothing. But having Bernie as the Democratic nominee is worth it, even if he loses.

I really just don't think this is true: Democrats #1 thing is beating Trump, they see him as an existential threat. Labour didn't view the May government that way.
