Aside from the famous memed scene, I haven't seen it. Worth a viewing?

Ok. And Death of Stalin is ultimately too light for its subject matter.

There's a lot of farce in the movie but it doesn't shrink from scenes of the innocent being slaughtered nor does it whitewash the depravity of the Politburo. I think the key is the scene where Beria implicates his executioners, noting that they were no better than he.

Totally understand why people could react that way. And that is a key and powerful scene. But I'm sticking with my instant summary review until further reflection. Would value take of others in the movie club.

I'm curious how the movie works for those with a lot less historical knowledge of this episode and those with expertise.

Exactly. It's a case where a very stylized work of art can illuminate the real in ways that strict representation can't.
