It’s known as Engineers Disease, and, yes, economists tend to suffer a great deal from this malady.

Anecdotally but funny tradespeople will tell you the worst people to work are engineers. It’s a constant stream of “Why are you doing it this way?” Then they tell you an alternative way, then you tell them the price of that way, then they go away and leave you alone
