I feel like Republicans have learned a lesson that cultural victories will trump any material concerns. As such, screwing over government workers will trump any harms from mail loss.

I think at this point the GOP feels they have such a lock on their base (due largely to cultural identity issues — e.g. owning the libs) that they don’t worry about “real” issues peeling off voters.

It’s really the propaganda machine (right wing media), the GOP, such that it is, just follows along for power.
