I'm making a stronger claim: that the notion that being and consciousness, reality and ideology, are external to each other is mistaken. Racist discourse, for example, is organically embedded in racist social practices.

The notion that they are external and separate is how one gets to the idea of false consciousness. But racism among white workers is not a misunderstanding of their "true interests," it is the expression of social practices and institutions that have racism baked into them.
