There was a larger trend whereby midlist films (sometimes with art house vibes) were routinely turned into tonally different sitcoms in 1970s/1980s (MASH>MASH, Alice Doesn't Live Here Anymore>Alice, Cooley High>What's Happening, Taxi Driver>Taxi)
