Those of us who write articles online, do YouTube and podcasts, etc. haven't had our livelihoods jeopardized all that much by coronavirus. If anything, there is MORE demand right now for what we produce. Which is why we must be extra empathetic with those whose lives are upended

Were your tweets dismissing the idea of environmental racism -- done at a time when evidence is emerging that working class POC are disproportionately suffering -- examples of empathy?

Yep it's empathy toward those who don't speak in the insular lingo of activist-brains like AOC.

Would you recognize that the concept of environmental racism has validity, whatever objections you have to the lingo?

I wouldn't use a meaningless jargon term like "environmental racism" to describe these phenomena:https://twitter.com/mtracey/status/1246416193583546372 …

Lol @ the people melting down over this tweet. “Environmental racism” is a meaningless term. If you want to contend that minorities are disproportionately harmed by poor environmental policy, use normal language to communicate that concept, rather than sloganeering activist-speak https://twitter.com/mtracey/status/1246278826981801989 …

Certainly not a term that to the naked eye implies the natural environment is itself racist.

It’s true...metaphorical language is a strict no-no in political comms. Otherwise people might get the idea that we’re literally waging a war on poverty

The whole purpose here is for him to get all indignant and wrapped around the axle of vocabulary that he can feel good about ignoring the issue. It’s like arguing about whether an AR-15 is an “assault rifle.”
