If they are people like this, they are very silly since there is no objective non-anecdotal evidence Sanders supporters are worse on online than anyone else.

To start, the issue is not all Sanders supporters, but a particular faction of them. There is a world of difference, a virtual chasm, between how an AOC conducts herself and the toxicity of the ‘dirtbag left.’ 1/

People remember the bad experiences — it is like the one teacher who humiliated you in front of the class — and telling them it is not real is like the Richard Pryor line: who are you gonna believe, me or your lying eyes? /2

Moreover, the research you are no doubt relying upon — as it is called out now every time someone raises the issue — which talks about generally negative and positive tweets does not address the nature and intensity of the negativity. 3/

Well, if we're going to argue anecdotally rather than rely on what social scientist have measured, I'll just say that in my experience the dirtbag left seems much less intensely negative than many other factions on twitter.

Leo: is the above tweet an example of the great civility of centrist Dems and their superiority to the dirtbag left?

Can we agree that it is an asshole comment? PS The world is not divided into dirtbag left and followers of James Carville.

Right -- but is it just an individual asshole comment or an asshole comment from someone with a broader ideology, one that has real power in the Democratic party?

Jeet: you have 240 thousand followers; this dude has 40. I have no idea what his politics are, other than that they are toxic, and that toxicity probably outweighs any ideology that he thinks he is following.

Most of the "dirtbag left" only has 40 followers! The point is why are some forms of toxic speech treated as merely reflecting on the person posting them while other forms are seen as representing a movement? I personally see toxic speech from many different ideologies.

Because the only thing that matters is power and centrists are not willing to share it with the left (for ideological and financial reasons). All the concern trolling and outrage is just a proxy in this war.
