My understanding is that this becomes a lot easier once the antigen (protein) detection tests (similar to the common flu test) get FDA approval and come online, which are quicker and cheaper.

Abbot testing is highly unlikely to provide the type of massive population level screening that will answer this question or help us get out of this. There are less than 20,000 machines in the US, each one costs $10K, and they test one sample at a time.
