The pandemic requires free, universal testing & treatment; it's caused a severe recession which throwing millions out work, leading to loss health insurance; insurance companies will soon be jacking up premiums. Centrist Dems continue to attack Medicare For All.

at a certain point isn't this leveraging the epidemic to score points in this debate against "centrist Dems"?

Only in the sense that the pandemic absolutely underscores the logic of universal health care as something that is not only good for individuals but necessary for society.

Naw, there's all sorts of things pandemic has me changing my mind on (national industrial policy, drug regulations, decoupling from China, tracking people via cell phones). But obviously a pandemic can only be dealt with using a system of national, free health care.

I would disagree. Our system costs a lot, but we have lots of things like disproportionate # of ICU beds and expensive equipment which has served us well compared to places like Italy.

Ask what would have been different under Clinton and an R Congress: - probably better federal planning - more resistance from R governors - nothing like the same relief bill - still a terrible fee-for-service healthcare system The US was never going to match South Korea.

Centrist dems were perfectly happy with a fear-of-Trump election season. Not quite so happy with a fear-our-governance-is-completely-broken election.
