This is the pattern everywhere that a few social gatherings are like sparks setting off a forest fire. In Canada it was a Dentist conference in BC and a curling meet in Alberta etc.

Additionally, I think that ascribing discrete "causes" to community-transmission catalysts trend toward the facile and convenient (beaches vs. New Yorkers). Everyday human interaction in a densely populated area such as Detroit is sufficient to explain most of the infections.
