      I'm digging into this a little bit but it seems like Epstein is, via Hayek, a Lamarckian of some sort -- which is not mainstream science at all!

          Actually yes, but not really relevant here. Lamarck wasn't as wrong as people often assume... even Darwin thought as much. Lamarck was wrong about the mechanism, but not the underlying principle that use or disuse of a trait contributes to natural selection.

          Tempting to say he's projecting from personal experience. Movement conservatism consists of obviously toxic strains that, to thrive and persist, must evolve into milder, more mainstream, respectable forms. If pattern holds, by July Covid-19 is a libertarian-leaning think-tank!
